Nitrogen Rejection Unit
This system processes LNG with an excessive concentration of nitrogen (whose calorific value is not suitable for utilization) by separating the nitrogen (and oxygen in excess) from the LNG.
Based on cryogenic separation/distillation, the process exploits the phenomenon of expansion and/or condensation to separate nitrogen from LNG without the use of chemicals.
Its configuration can vary (depending on the amount of nitrogen to be separated) from a simple controlled expansion (flash) to a more sophisticated stripper or distillation tower with condenser.
With a compact design (typical footprint based on standard 40/45ft container size), the Nitrogen Rejection Unit minimizes the impact of installation and commissioning thanks to a design that is completely pre-assembled, welded, wired and pre-tested.
