Molten Carbonate Fuel Cells

The new generation of Molten Carbonate Fuel Cells (MCFC) combine high efficiency clean power generation and carbon capture simultaneously, in the same equipment. Other advantages of our MCFC technology are the low maintenance as there are no moving parts in the fuel cell.

This technology can be also integrated with other Ecospray environmental solutions such as DeSOx, particle filters, and oxidation catalysts. Molten Carbonate Fuel Cells can be powered by methane (LNG, bio-LNG), hydrogen, ammonia, syngas and other fuels providing the reforming/cracking externally or directly inside the cell.

In the onboard system, the CO2-rich exhaust gas coming from a power generation system, can be fed to the cathode and up to 90% of the CO2 is then captured. At this point, the CO2 transferred at the anode outlet can be easily separated and liquefied for further usage. MCFC technology could be optimally applied to all type of ships in view of its capability to capture efficiently CO2 even at very low concentration, its reduced opex and its compactness, especially if used in combination of bio- or super-bio-LNG (CO2 capture is here included).
